Another review for the mass today. The album I'm about to describe today is produced by another Dutch band which deserves to grow larger. An Epic Defiance starts with a prologue and continues with the title track of the album. The music is very neat and there are fast passages and slow passages in this song. It's a very good song and I'm already looking forward to the rest of the album. The album sounds very well produced and clean with a great mixing of vocals and drums and roaring guitars. Next song is a very fast song, which relates more to the death metal side, it's called: The Prophecy Unfold.

I have a quite good view of this album, as it sounds very decent for a band which makes their music in a genre where there are 2000 others. Detonation manages to produce a completely different sound than the ordinary death metal/trash metal band and that makes them end quite high with this debut album. I personally favoured the song Sword Carved Skin because of the inhumanly double bass passage in the beginning of the song, and after seeing a picture of the drummer, I was completely surprised because he doesn't have the normal proportions for a trash metal drummer ( Gene Hoglan') but that doesn't mean Thomas Kalksma isn't able to play the very fast passages. My compliments for this! But also the more melodic song Deserving Death impressed me, because it sounded a little bit like Amon Amarth, the melodic parts anyways. My final judgement about this album is that it's a very well and clean produced album with a potential to crush fragile souls.

I recommend this album to all you people who like the brutal parts of Arch Enemy and the melodic passages of In Flames and Soilwork. It will come out somewhere in April/May under Osmose Prod. Detonation have a quite impressive history, and it all started as a side project called Infernal Dream. In 1998 the band took form and recorded 2 songs for a compilation album. In 1999 the Crushed Skull album is released ( a compilation where Detonation participated in) Then in the fall of 1999 Detonation went back to the studio for the recording of their MCD Lost Euphoria, which was released in the beginning of 2000. It was quiet around Detonation for awhile, but in July 2002 Detonation have begun the recordings for the full length debut, which I just reviewed. Detonation also signed with Osmose Productions, a very good label for the more extreme bands of the genre ( Impiety, Houwitser and Arkhon Infaustos)
